Rose, our gorgeous white chook, started this whole collection. Daisy, her sister, got us thinking there could be a bigger collection for chooks. There's a reason artists, including us, keep coming back to poultry — the plumage detail, the personality in the posture, the way a well-composed chicken portrait can be simultaneously dignified and deeply funny.
Austin Bloom's chicken collection approaches the subject with the same archival quality and artistic seriousness as our floral and still life work — but with a warmth and personality that's all its own. Our chook portraits capture individual character: the tilt of a head, the shimmer of feathers, or a disdainful look from being placed on a plinth.
We think the chooks work in pretty well any space. They have farmhouse character with fine art quality. Open and limited editions on archival canvas or cotton rag.
Chicken Art for Every Kitchen Style
Country and farmhouse kitchens.
Chicken prints are the natural choice for country-style kitchens. A rooster canvas above the stove or a pair of hen prints beside the pantry adds warmth and character without trying too hard.
Modern kitchens.
A single chicken portrait against a dark background reads as contemporary art, not country kitsch. The moody palette and fine art treatment elevate the subject.
Eclectic kitchens.
Mix a chicken print with botanical or still life pieces for a gallery wall with personality. The unexpected combination of subjects creates visual interest.

Beyond the Kitchen
While kitchens are the natural home for chicken art, these prints work in more places than you'd expect:
Dining rooms
A large rooster art print or a set of hen prints adds warmth to dining room art spaces.
Hallways and entryways
Small chicken portraits make characterful accent pieces for hallway art.
Kids' rooms
The personality in these prints appeals to children and adults alike.
Home offices
Sometimes you need a chicken staring at you to keep you focused.
The Austin Bloom Difference
Our chicken prints aren't clip art or stock images with a vintage filter. Each portrait is composed by us with the same attention to light, composition, and atmosphere as our botanical and still life work. We work as a team to handle the animals, test set design and painted backdrops for consistent compositions to pair easily, experiment with photography until the light is just so, and curate our work until we're happy with the collection.
Archival quality. Printed on canvas or 310gsm cotton rag with archival inks. These prints will look as good in a decade as they do today.
Open and Limited editions. Each chicken piece is produced in either open or limited editions. When limited editions sell through, they're gone. Both are made to order.
Australian made. Designed and printed in Australia by specialist vendors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Estée's chicken portraits combine fine art photography with digital composition, creating images that have the detail of photography and the atmosphere of classical painting.
For above a stove or bench, 50–70cm works well. For a feature wall in a kitchen-dining area, 80cm+ makes a statement. Pairs of smaller prints (30–40cm) work well on narrow walls or beside pantry doors.
Yes — canvas is actually the preferred format for kitchens. The satin finish handles humidity better than cotton rag, and it's easier to keep clean. Learn more about the differences in our guide on canvas vs cotton rag.
Currently, our collection includes many happy hens of different breeds, each with distinct personality and character. If we can get the roosters to behave, we'll certainly add them!
